Hi all,
I realize that this is the "adoption forum", but can't seem to find any info on fostering a child. Is there anyone who has been through the foster care process? What are the challenges?

Hi, we just submitted our paperwork to participate in the fostercare programme, this week. Where are you based, maybe I can suggest some places that you can contact to get the forms and further info.

I'm very interested in your thoughts, hopes and dreams regarding fostering. What are you hoping it will do for your family and for you? Or is it purely an altruistic gesture about helping others?

@ cambodia - I am based in Pta and have been touch with a specific place, but thanks for the offer.
I am particularly interested in knowing how biological and foster children mix. My son is 6, and we are looking at opening our home to little ones younger than 3. The place I've been in touch with deals specifically with babies and toddlers.

@ parent24ed - I chatted to a social worker who pointed out that there is a dire need for foster parents, or at the very least places of safety, for kids who are taken away from their parents for whatever reason. Sometimes its for a few days, sometimes a few years... Fostering is not something many people consider due to the fact that it is temoporary. My hubby and I feel that we have much to offer (safe and loving home), even if for a short period of time. So yeah, it is simply about helping others.

Hi. We have been fostering a little boy for the past 18 months. He arrived in our home when he was 8 months old and has just turned 2. I have three bio children, between 3 & 10yrs, and they have accepted him as "their little brother" although I have always reminded them that he has another set of parents and family too. We have quite a bit of interaction with his extended family as they are caring for his older brother - so my kids just see it as another family that we are connected to and are very accepting and comfortable with it. Because we are a big family, there is no room for nonsense and favouritism... everyone just pitches in and gets on with the things of life. There have been many ups and downs and it is certainly not sunshine and roses all the time - but we are glad that we have done this as it makes us a stronger family and we know that we are giving him a chance to thrive. It is by the grace of God that we can do this and I encourage you to keep at it as you will reap many blessings for it.
