Hi everyone. My baby is 6 weeks old and has acid reflux. The doc prescribed Zantac 3 times a day to control the acid, though she still has quite bad reflux. Apparently she will outgrow this. Also, she is breastfed and I think the milk flow is too much for her cos she is grunts and squirms and sometimes chokes while she is feeding (not always at the same time during the feed). I am trying to lay back in a reclined position while feeding but she still struggles a bit. Anyway, all of this means she is quite gassy and with her reflux she finds it hard to sleep on her side or on her back. The only way she gets a good sleep is if I prop her into a reclined sitting position using pillows. My question is, is this OK? I have heard that it could be quite bad for her back. We have tried elevating one end of her cot but I don't think it is inclined enough for her to sleep comfortably.

Advice/suggestions anyone?

Hi Nusha
Sounds like what you're doing is everything that the books tell you to do. My baby too developed reflux, I went to an Osteopath for help. After 3 sessions over 3 weeks it's almost completely disappeared. Have a look at their website - www.osteohealth.com - for more information,
Julie

Hey Nusha

My son had a similar problem and after trying many things someone suggested I try moving him to soya formula instead, it worked wonders for him. If you're up for the change it might be worth the try. Good luck and I know it will get easier for you

My daughter also suffered from reflux, I did give her breast milk however I expressed the milk, and then added a Nestle product called Nestragel to the milk - this stopped the reflux completely. You can only buy this product from a pharmacy.
Hope it helps.

One of my children also suffered with reflux- Infacare make a special formula that you mix and give immediately - it's thicker than normal foruma and designed specifically to keep the food down... worked a like a dream.

Also my other child didn't enjoy sleeping on her sides (I don't do sleeping on the back at such a young age), she did however roll over on her stomach and that's how she slept for weeks... scary but we all slept very happily...
