My daughter has just turned 21 and my son 18 - they always work through their mother as far as money requests are concerned
She always dumps a request for money the day before maintenance is due for the 18yo - there is no planning no budget no nothing in her life. I have now spoke to him and asked him to make requests directly to me - its not that the money does not go where it supposed to but I feel she has nothing more to do his finances except the maintenance - our contract specifies 21 for maintenance. We have been divorced for 15yrs and she thinks I am being unreasonable by asking the kids to deal with me direct.

Well to be honest, I think its a good thing, because at 18 your son needs to start learning about money and how to manage his own affairs... and seeing that you have paid for 15yrs already and kept to the agreement, I think you have every right to suggest your son request and manage his own money. its will be worth more in life skills than monetary value that's for sure!
