My 7 week old baby who usually goes to sleep for a 4 hour stretch won't sleep for longer than half an hour during the day in the last week. She falls asleep easily but doesn't stay asleep. I don't know why she isn't sleeping all of a sudden. Please help.....

Hi, my newborn started doing the same thing. Apparently its normal according to my paed. Babies will start to have catnaps during the day and will start to sleep longer at night.

Yes it is normal..

But you must also remember that as they grow their need for food also changes. When my second son was about the same age, he was battling to sleep properly as well, until I realised he was still hungry...heh.

Very normal...

My baby did the same at that age and I thought there was something wrong. She started sleeping for longer at night and we could drop a feed:) She now takes 2 catnaps and one longer one a day, and then sleeps through at night.

I would check that your little one is getting the correct nutrients, etc.

But I doubts its anything to get worried about. I remember the first time my child stayed awake for more than half the day... I FREAKED out.... though OMG somethings wrong, phoned my mom, phoned my sister, was in an absolute pannic... luckily I didnt waste money at the Pead that time round hahaha

Beinf a First time mom, I used to freak out at almost everything, she would have a slight temperature, and I'd want to rush her off to the pead. It is a scarey thought when you think that your little baby is 100% dependant on you, for food, warmth, love, & care.... but its always comforting to know that there are MILLIONS of woman out there going through the same thing as you.

Just trust your instincts, they are normally right.

Glad you asked the question. Was also starting to wonder, seems like it was wind.

Some babies may develop a pattern where they fall asleep easily but they also wake back up shortly after. This often results in mom suffering from sleep deprivation causing negativity and even depression. The average sleep cycle is 40minutes long. A light-sleeper may easily wake up at the turn of a sleep cycle. If baby wakes up earlier than expected, mom shouldn’t immediately pick him/her up. Leave the baby as is because…
You can also use another technique to teach baby to skip a wakeup. If baby wakes up…
