My 7 week old baby who usually goes to sleep for a 4 hour stretch won't sleep for longer than half an hour during the day in the last week. She falls asleep easily but doesn't stay asleep. I don't know why she isn't sleeping all of a sudden. Please help.....

Its probably a growth spurt - or the fact there is more stimulation around her. has anything changed in her environment?
Goodluck though - my youngest had colic and i'm only just recovering - 3 years down the line as she has never slept through.

Thanks for replying.... Nothing has changed in her environment as far as I am aware. The only thing is the heat wave that we are having at the moment. I take all her clothes off in the afternoon and just leave her in a nappy.... Maybe it is the heat that is geeting to her and as such she is restless..... She also has colic but I have found huge relief in taking her to a chiropracter for treatment, now her colic is under control... Basically they stretch then out because the spine puts pressure on the nerves in their tunny and as such it causes pain and discomfort.... I used to struggle to burp her but now her winds come out so easily. Maybe you should take your baby to the chiropracter, you might see a huge difference, I certainly have....

Babies do tend to sleep less when they start to be more aware of their environment. That's definitely what I would check first. But you do get those babies who sleep even if there is a hurricane, so I guess it's also just luck. All the best.

Would just like to let you know, my 7 week old boy is going through exactly the same & I was wondering the same thing? I also think that he is becoming more aware of what's going on around him. It can surely be very frustrating, especially if you have things that needs to be done! Luckily those cute smiles happening the last few days make up for it!

I dont have kids but am still a kid at heart :d/

My brother and his wife have 2 boys, 4 and 1.
I feel it may be somthing to do with blood sugar.
I was told by my doctor that I shouldnt drink alchohol for a few hours before I go to bed because the digestion of it would leave me with high blood sugar and then I would wake up at 2am every night.
My Mom tells me there are 3 reasons why one cant sleep.
1. To hot or to cold
2. hungry
3. need to go to the loo

So ...have 2 light blankets so temp can be regulated by removing/adding
don"t eat too much carbs or to late before going to bed

my daughter is a a little older now, but at 3 weeks in desperation i started her on the Gina Ford "contented baby" routine. As a new mom with no one around to guide me - i found her advice and schedules invaluable. I don't believe in the cry therapy routines (which she is known for too) but i would religiously wake her up for her night feeds and by 12 weeks she was sleeping through from 10pm - 7am.

Don't worry too much. Its just a phase they go through. It is exactly the same thing with my baby. She goes through periods where she only sleep for 15 min stretches during the day and then there will be days where she sleeps the entire day. Nothing to worry about. Get a baby swing or bouncer seat to place her in so that you can continue with your normal chores and her watching contently.
