My son is 20 years old and was diagnosed ADHD at 6 years old, so I've been riding this roller coaster a long time.
Something that keeps coming up on my blog and in support group meetings, is telling people about your ADHD child's diagnosis and treatment.
Who to tell?
Do you tell anyone?
How do you tell them?
What do you tell them?
I learned over the years that the more people I told the more help I could get for myself and my son, and the more awareness I could create around the disorder.
Talking in support groups to other parents helped tremendously- if you can find one.
Talking to my son's grandparents and extended family- and talking repeatedly- made them understand how my son and I needed their help.
Talking to the school and to teachers meant my son got a little extra attention and was allowed the concessions he was entitled to, like extra time in tests and exams.
Do you talk to people about your child's diagnosis and treatment?
Mom, Cupcake maven, ADHD champion, wedding planner, tattooed cat slave... come play on my roller coaster!
