Higher rate of autism in Westrand??

Just heard something disturbing - there appears to be a higher rate of autism in the Westrand area. Children tested seem to have high levels of mercury in their blood which may be due to the water in the area.
Do you know if this is true? Have any of you heard of it before? Or is it just a rumour?
