I wanted to let you know about a new adoption support initiative which I have started which is aimed at a wider audience.

This initiative is aimed at people who might not be thinking of adopting a child themselves, or maybe just not at this point, but do want to know more about adoption and the issues surrounding it and also help out some of the organizations involved in it. Of course people who have adopted or who are in the process of adopting are also welcome.

What it involves is screening of an adoption related movie and some discussion about the themes that emerge from the movie for people who can stay for about half an hour after the movie is finished. We will meet in a lecture theatre in the Leslie Social Science Building on upper campus (UCT).

I am charging a nominal amount (at the moment it is R50) to cover the costs of the event, but then will use surplus money raised to donate to an organization involved in adoption work or care of children who are eligible for adoption.

We will start next month (Tuesday 19 July 17:30 - 19:30) with a screening of Juno.

So I thought you might be interested in "joining the club" and attending the event, or you could forward the information to other people who might be interested in joining the club.

Otherwise you might want to suggest an organization who would benefit from the money we raise. Next month the money we raise is going to Nomzamo Place of Safety in Langa. They were looking after my baby before he came to me, so I have a particular soft spot for this organization.

Please find relevant information attached and feel free to send to anyone you think might be interested.

Anyone who wants more information or want to be placed on a mailing list could email me on ct.adoption.support@gmail.com or could join the Facebook group Passionate about Adoption or 'like' the Facebook page Cape Town Adoption Support.
