My oldest son is in Grade R this year. I've noticed that the teachers will correct them (including the younger ones) if they say something wrong. (I suppose it is their job :))

For me it's cute when my 4 year old says stuff like "Skinneskop" instead of "Spinnekop". So I never actively corrected them. What I do is use the correct word when talking about it.

What I'd like to know is what other parents do or think about it.

Do you think I'm being a bad parent for allowing them to use incorrect words?

No you are not a bad parent at all. I believe it is right to correct them, incorrect pronunciation of words will only make it difficult for them when they have to spell words. So by correcting them, you actually make life easier for when they have to spell. Not saying that it is not cute when they say things in their own ways. I very casually correct my child by just repeating the word in the correct way, no stress or pressure on them, and if they say it wrong again, I do the same.

No, don't correct the language, just continue speaking to him or her as if she said the correct thing. It is how they learn and will even out. Besides being cute, it essential for them to learn how to use language. I crack up at the things my two-year old says like 'babtle' for bottle, and bispits for 'biscuits'. So just enjoy it.
