Is okay to tell young children "white lies"? Does it do more harm than good? What do you guys think?

I don't lie to my children, and the only thing I encourage from them is the 'no secrets' rule. The only time this gets adapted is for surprises, such as presents we don't want the recipient to know about. Of course, the 'no lying' rule means that it's hard to explain difficult concepts in a way that's not too harsh or impossible for them to understand.

Telling any lies at ALL leads to 'keeping secrets' - and that is the foundation upon which child-molesters build their awful edifice of lies and guilt - they say to the child "this is OUR little secret, remember" - and if you have allowed your children to tell lies, to keep secrets, even little 'white' lies, your child is a target. For your children's safety, you need to set and keep just one rule.

No lies.

Ever.

Scott D is absolutely correct.
