I'm lying on my bed, working, while I listen to my son Josef practising his saxophone. Now, this sax has been the bane of my life for a bit, as it's loud, it's played every afternoon and mostly for scales.

Wind instruments, other parents, are not for sissies!

But lately, he's started playing tunes, and making up little riffs and really enjoying himself... and I am just so INCREDIBLY PROUD of him, my heart could burst. It's like having a Lisa Simpson in the house. Mostly, though, I love seeing how the sax relaxes him and builds his confidence. He's a shy 12-year-old and exploring his sassier, sax side is really good for him.

Right. That's the fiery parent love moment I just HAD to share.

You?

I had one yesterday- Jonah was in tears because I was reinforcing the 'no TV on a school night' rule. Hannah, who is only eight, could see I was battling to calm him down, so she went to him, held his hand and said 'Jonah, don't be sad, you know, we can watch TV on the weekends', with a serious caring frown on her face. It helped him.

She's tiny, but so full of compassion. I love that.

My 3-year-old nephew told my almost-2-year-old niece to get to the naughty spot yesterday. This after she hit him.

Can you imagine these 2 tiny people having a little tiff and acting like grown-ups? Good grief they're adorable. How can you not love that?

When my 5 year old son Ethan was diagnosed with cancer, my eldest and youngest sons obviously had their own issues to deal with Ethan always wanted me by his side for transfusions, chemo etc. Ewan who was 8 told the psychologist that he really missed having me around, but it was ok, because Ethan needed me more then ... bitter sweet :).

Oh, that's heartbreakingly firey. And? How is your son? And, just as importantly, how are YOU?
