Afternoon all,

At this moment I'm beyond frustrated.

My 17 month old son suddenly started throwing this screaming and tantrum fits to point where giving him a hiding does not work. I was raised in the old Afrikaans manor where if you dare do something like this you'd receive a major hiding but as stated - this does not work.

I really don't know what to do. I've tried the hiding route, the ignoring route the talking nicely route but nothing seems to work!

It's not a matter of lack of attention or love as there is an overflow of both.

Is this just a phase of this age??

Hi Mr Big

My child is turning 18 months today and she does exactly the same and I also wish to know what I have to do because she does that in public as well and her father and I get so embarrassed..

Tantrums can be completely nerve-wracking, and feel particularly bad if you're out in public with people staring. As hard as it is to cope with, they are mostly related to a normal phase of growth, and different children respond to different strategies.

Take a look at this Parent24 article, if you like. It has some awesome tips, and one or two of them may help.

All the best,
