I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this kind of situation?

My sister will be having her second baby in about 2 and a half months. Her toddler son will only then be 21 months.

Luke is extremely lively and LIVES on attention.

I was just wondering/worried about how he'll react to suddenly having a new 'baba' in his space.

Any advice?

Thanks!

New born and toddler: It sounds like a nightmare but it can be done. When I gave birth to my daughter my son was only 2. When I was pregnant I always told him he's getting a baby sister and included him in all the decisions I made regarding the baby. I always talked about Him and Sisi (as we call her), I let him choose clothes for her and asked him to donate some of his baby toys to her. I don't think he understood what I meant, but when she finally came last October he finally met Sisi and they just bonded.
Its also important to make time for him even though you have a little baby. Put the baby away and still cuddle your toddler and listen to all his talks. Toddlers are very demanding but they can be understanding as long as they know they are still your baby too.

Thanks so much teagirl. The rest of the family has already decided that when Amy is around that there must always be some1 playing with Luke. There's enough of us and we see them just about everyday so it shouldn't be too difficult. Plus the men are not too keen on little babies so that's ok! LOL.

Thanks again :)

I did this... and it's a bitch, but as soon as the second kid sits up at around 6 months... things look up dramatically. Not only does their world become eminently more interesting, but your eldest is less at a loss about this THING that needs all Mommy's attention.

And you can finally nip to the loo!

I suppose that's true. As soon as they can interact things should get better right??
