My boy is almost 8 months old and happily eating solids. I'm also still breastfeeding and have never given him formula. I'm hoping to breastfeed until he's around 12 months old, but what kind of milk can I give him then when I stop breastfeeding? Will ordinary cow's milk be ok? What have other parents done at the 12-month stage?

My daughter is 13 months now and I give her Nan3. There's a lot of products out there but maybe consult the clinic the next time you go there.

Ordinary cow's milk is fine - it has to be Full Cream though - as I was told by my Peadiatrician. I give my twins - 18 months Promil S26 number 3.

I was a baby mommy 10 years ago, and at that time my baby went from the breast at 13 months straight to cow's milk in a spout cup (never had a bottle). But I must say, he never really enjoyed milk, and I always had to include yoghurt, cheese and tofu in his diet to keep the calcium intake high.

I'd like to go straight to cow's milk if I can, and if baby is ok with it. I'm sure I'm just paranoid but after the recent scare about formula milk in China I'd like to avoid things in tins!

Is it ok to include other diary products in his diet already?

LOL Bella! We forgive you. I think it's not recommended to give such small babies dairy, because of the possibility of allergies. But check with your clinic, because the wisdom on these things changes as knowledge grows.

Hi, I breastfed my baby untill he was 12 months. The clinic suggested that I put him directly on cow's milk, but that I should thin it out with either rooibos tea or water. I used to give him half a bottle of rooibos and filled the rest with milk. He loved it and according to the pead that was more than enough calcium for him in his bottle feed. You have to also give him calcium products in his solid feeds. He should do just fine.
