I would like to do a "survey".

With regard to actual maintenance paid, and extras, i.e clothing, schooling etc, what is the average amount received in maintenance plus "perks" that you receive for your child.

Pls state age of child, maintenance amt, plus "extras/perks" you receive. If possible, his and hers income.

It's time someone done a survey, so that this type of info can be made widely available.

No names and personal details pls.

Good idea...will give us all an idea.

OK...so my fiance has a 20 month old son.

He gives the mother R2500 maintance AND pays R600 to medical aid. so total R3100

BUT. Now she is demanding R5054! here is what she says the child costs...which...sorry to say...is BULL! no child costs R1700 to feed a month but anyway. Here is how she works her childs costs out:

Food 1000
Milk Powder 380
Cereal 120
Nappies 650
Fruit Juice 100
Fresh Fruit 100
Maid/Nanny 2000
Clothes,shoes,Toys 500
Toiletries, 300
Soap powder.Softener 200
Water and Elece 300
Rent 1000
TOTAL R6650

@ Toni

Rough guestimate : divide the total above by 2 (if both parents earn similar amounts).

If "dad" earns more then he will pay a little more.

eg. 6650 / 2 = R3325 each.

Ur fiances child looks quite lucky - whats the maid for ? is the ex working ?

@ Guest....

yeah..he is the worlds most expensive little guy.
thats one of our arguments. the maid looks after him during the day but she also cleans the house and does ironing etc for the ex AND the exes boyfriend!!! so why must my fiance pay towards ALL of it? make sense to you? i rekon he should only pay towards HALF..as thats the care of the child.

also...the ex lives with her boyfriend in his home...but my fiance mst pay R1000 towards rent? is it right for him to pay this guys bond?

she is an unqualified hairdresser earning R7000. my fiance earns R13000 so he has to pay more towards maintaining the child. but her costs are ludicrous and he wont pay it until a court orders him to do so. he will continue paying R2500 for now.

I hear u Toni

You can ask for all reciepts (like from Pick n Pay or wherever)

Then go through each and every one and seperate out the childs "stuff" - sum it up and halve it.

Same with everything - get proof and go through with a fine tooth comb

he shouldn't cover the nanny - maybe suggest to the ex that his parents look after the child during the day ;o)

wait til the court orders him to pay more

I get zip / nothing / nudda. She earns R50,000 and refuses to pay a cent, I earn less than R15,000 in a good month. I have to pay psychotherapist, occupational therapist and speech therapist and case manager psychologist. All this was court ordered but the matter of payment for this was not part of the order. I have been awarded legal costs (around R3,000,000) for the 4 year battle in order to get our son into my safe custody / care, however she refuses to pay a cent and we will have to go back to court on maintenance and recovery of legal costs, in the meantime our son suffers as I have to work day and night.

My hubby pays R10 040.00 per month for 2 children aged 13 and 6. Also additonal costs like school camps, school clothes for a new year, medical. The additional costs are at least not every month though. My husband earns a good salary (R40K) but we don't know how much the ex earns, she has a new job and refuses to tell us. I guess while we can afford to pay it's fine but I don't agree with the fact that the ex wife makes no contribution as there is no way in hell those two kids cost more than 10 000 a month to raise!

First child from my first marriage - 13 years old at high school. R1 500 per month when we're lucky. Nothing extra.

Second child from my second marriage - 4 years old at nursery school. R3 500 per month plus school fees, extra murals, clothing, stationery and medical aid. I didn't even have to ask. This was offered and is paid without fail.

I pay for 2 children age 10 and 14, R 4800/month maintenace, school fees R5200/month,Medical aid R1200/month plus app.R1000/on extras, then still i get asked to pay for school uniform, stationary ,books, extra murals etc.I earn a salary of R36500/ month.
I am in the process of a maintenace court action to have a fixed amount paid per month as i cannot plan finacially with unexpected extras she expects me to pay monthly.
she has also been working the last year or so and according to maintenace agreement she does not pay as she never worked at time of agreement.

My daughter is 4 Years old. the maintenance her father pays is R2000pm thats all........ If she gets sick he is supposed to pay half but to get money out of him is like trying to get blood out of a rock. He was supposed to get a medical aid 2 years ago for her and she is still waiting i would also then pay half towards the medical aid just FYI. Last time i checked he earned gross R30k he also co -owns another business - not sure about how much money he gets out of that.....

We have a 7 year old. The mother pays R700. (Maybe it is R100 per year, and when he turns 8, it will be R800?) She also has a policy of R300 she pays for the child. Our school fees are R1000. The aftercare is R850. Then he has not eaten or attended extra-mural activities.

I thought mothers would know better.

One son 3.5yrs old -
I get no financial assistance at all from his father. The father lives 5min drive away from us - we arranged that he come for 2 hours once a week to visit, but cannot manage to do that either.

Supposed to be receiving R4000.00 for two children according to the Court Order, but I don't. My ex works on a cash basis and is not registered with SARS, so there is no proof of what he earns. He does however drive a BMW, own a new laptop, eat out, have a huge house, buys nice clothes, etc. When it comes to his kids he doesn't give a toss whether they eat, whether their school fees are paid, whether they have a roof above their head. I'm now suing my ex's parents.
